Over a decade of proprietary data

Sportspickr.com has quietly collected its own sports database since 2016: scores, lines, and outcomes across tens of thousands of games. That history is the ground truth every model is built and back-tested on.

02

A projection engine that learns

Proprietary algorithms project every game from first principles (pitching, offense, pace, matchups, park and weather), then reconcile against the market and bet only where we meaningfully diverge. Then the loop closes: every pick is graded against what actually happened, and those results feed back into the model — where it ran hot or cold, we find it and retune. It’s never finished, and it’s always learning — continually corrected against its own track record, in the open.

03

An LLM research layer

A large language model reads the day’s context the numbers miss (injuries, lineups, weather, late scratches), and folds only confirmed facts back into the projection before a pick is posted.

04

Live third-party data & discipline

Real-time odds and stats from third-party feeds sharpen every line. One unit flat on every play, closing-line value tracked on all of them. The record you see is the whole record.

Yesterday’s report card Aug 26 · 6–2

W
Brewers ML −148MIL 8, NYM 1
Projected MIL 6.2 – NYM 3.4
The Mets started a reliever (Robert Stock, 16.2 IP) and a 4.57 pen had to cover five innings against a lineup scoring 5.5 a game. Cleanest edge on the board, cashed.
L
Dodgers ML −129LAD 5, ATL 6
Projected LAD 5.9 – ATL 2.8
The flagged risk hit: Atlanta’s cold lineup regressed and beat a 2.8-run projection. We took the price, not the size, the dog still bit.
W
Orioles ML −107BAL 8, STL 7
Projected BAL 5.3 – STL 4.4
McGreevy’s 3.54 ERA / 5.31 xERA luck gap caught up to him behind the worst bullpen on the board. A coin-flip price on a 0.9-run edge landed.
L
Red Sox ML −133BOS 0, MIA 4
Projected BOS 5.6 – MIA 3.2
Boston’s hot streak was built on a lineup missing four regulars, and it showed, shut out. Exactly the soft spot we named in the writeup.
W
Rockies ML +112COL 13, WSH 1
Projected COL 5.5 – WSH 3.8
Two swingman starters turned it into a bullpen game; plus money on a live dog paid, and then some.
W
Phillies F5 ML −135PHI 6, SEA 0 (F5)
Projected PHI 2.9 – SEA 1.7 (F5)
The one game where the first five was the honest cut, Luzardo’s elite line without buying the worst pen on the board.
W
White Sox ML −122CWS 10, TEX 4
Projected CHI 4.0 – TEX 3.5
Burke’s steadier expected line plus a depleted Texas lineup on a thin 0.59-run edge, a small play that overdelivered.
W
Padres ML −135SD 3, PIT 0
Projected SD 4.0 – PIT 3.2
Not the starter, San Diego’s pen, Petco’s park, and the worst offense on the board across the diamond. Shutout.

Today’s card & analysis Aug 27

1Dodgers ML
Los Angeles Dodgers @ Atlanta Braves
+1078.0

Yamamoto (3.01 xERA) is the best arm on the board, and Sale’s 2.20 ERA is being carried by a .262 wOBA against a .272 xwOBA, so the 3.05 xERA is the truer number. Atlanta has scored 3.0 runs a game over its last 10, the worst mark on the slate, and its pen is missing Jimenez, Suarez and Lopez. The model has L.A. by 1.21 in a game where they are the price dog.

2Royals ML
Kansas City Royals @ Toronto Blue Jays
−1087.7

Toronto hits .641 OPS against left-handed pitching, the worst mark on the slate, and Cameron is a lefty riding a 1.26 ERA over his last five starts. Arrighetti carries a 5.11 xERA and is on a short leash in his second start off the injured list, so Toronto goes to its pen early. The roof is closed, which cuts the variance. Priced as a coin flip on a 2.29-run projected margin.

3Rockies ML
Colorado Rockies @ Washington Nationals
+1017.5

Irvin has a 7.86 home ERA and a 5.38 xERA, and the Nationals bullpen (4.96) is the worst on the card, so Colorado projects for 7.0 runs. Washington’s bats have gone quiet (3.0 R/G over the last 10, 0.68 offense index). Plus money on a 3.8-run projected margin is the best price-to-edge on the slate, though the number leans on Hughes’ 3.46 xERA over just 42 innings.

4Orioles ML
Baltimore Orioles @ St. Louis Cardinals
−1317.5

Rogers has been better than his 4.14 ERA (3.86 xERA), and Graceffo has been far worse than his 3.13 (5.04 xERA, .190 average against a .252 expected). St. Louis is running out a post-deadline lineup without Winn or Pereira, and the pen just lost Pallante, Dobbins and Strzelecki. The offset is the best defense in baseball behind Graceffo at plus-31 outs above average, which is why this ranks fourth rather than first.

Scorecard · building

The 30-day scorecard, closing-line value, and projection accuracy populate here the same way MLB’s do, the moment games grade. The model went live this week, so the first numbers post this weekend. Below is the opening card, in full, with the reasoning behind every pick.

This week’s card & analysis Week 0

1Over 56
Memphis @ UNLV
−1107.0

Our model has this game at 61.8 combined points against a market total of 56, a 5.8-point gap and the cleanest number on the board. UNLV owns the best Group of Five offense in our ratings behind a bruising run game, and Memphis rebuilt its offense around an Ohio State transfer back, so both sides project to move the ball. Neither defense rates well enough to slow that down, and the number has already been bet down from 59.5. Allegiant Stadium is a dome, so weather is a non-factor. The one caution: both teams are hiding their quarterback decision until kickoff, which caps conviction without changing the projection.

2Over 47
Jacksonville State @ N. Dakota State
−1086.7

Our number is 54.3 in a game the market has at 47, a 7.3-point gap and the biggest disagreement on the slate. Both teams rate as below-average defenses, and the Fargodome removes weather entirely. The pushback is real: these are two run-first programs, and a game played on the ground burns clock and suppresses scoring. NDSU’s rating is also preseason-only in its first year at this level, exactly the input the model trusts least, and its confidence score reflects that. We’ll take the over at a 7-point edge, but this is the pick most likely to be wrong for a reason the projection cannot see. Size it accordingly.

3North Carolina +9
North Carolina @ TCU · Dublin
−1086.3

This is a neutral-site game at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, so neither team gets a home-field bump, and that is the entire bet. Strip the venue edge out and our model has TCU by 5.9 in a game the market prices at 9, which puts North Carolina +9 three points clear of the number. TCU is the better team and deserves to be favored, just not by this much on a field that belongs to nobody. Both starting quarterbacks are confirmed healthy, so there’s no hidden discount in the price. The line moved from −7 to −9, money coming in on the wrong side of our number. We want the points, not the side.

4Under 60.5
San Jose State @ USC
−1106.3

Our model projects 56.3 combined points against a market total of 60.5, a 4.2-point gap toward the under. USC rates as one of the best offenses in the country and should score at will, but the model doesn’t see San Jose State holding up its end, it projects the Spartans for roughly 10 points, and a total this high needs the underdog to contribute. The market has pushed this from 58 to 60.5, the wrong direction relative to our number. The scenario that beats us is USC scoring so fast the Coliseum sees a running clock and a garbage-time touchdown, so this is a lean rather than a hammer.

5Under 53.5
New Mexico St @ Florida State
−1136.1

Our model has 49.9 combined points against a market total of 53.5, a 3.6-point gap toward the under. The projection is lopsided, Florida State by 30, with New Mexico State held near single digits, and a big favorite that covers by running the ball in the second half is a natural under. New Mexico State named a Furman transfer its starter, and a first-year quarterback against this defense is unlikely to generate the scoring drives the over needs. The total hasn’t moved off its open, so we’re not fighting a market that already agrees with us. This is the smallest edge on the card, which is why it ranks last.
